St Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

St Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

1838-1862

Feast Day: February 27

St Gabriel

It was at the birth of the Seminary for Perth, at an international Convivenza in 1993 at Porto San Giorgio in Italy, when at random we were given as Patron Saint the name of St Gabriel, a young seminarian of the Passionist Order. The relic of this saint was given to Fr Michael Moore SM, appointed as its first rector and as the first vice-rector, Fr Eric Skruzny.

Pope John Paul II inaugurated the Shrine to St Gabriel in L’Aquila near the Gran Sasso in Italy. It is situated in between Rome and Porto San Giorgio and is a popular place of pilgrimage today. Here we have stopped many times to pray for our Seminary and the evangelisation in Australia.
